1891: Rangers kick-off their season with a 4-1 win over Renton. John Muir scores twice with John McPherson and Neil Kerr also on the scoresheet.

1893: Robert Blyth and John McPherson are the only known goalscorers from Rangers’ 6-1 Friendly victory over King’s Park.

1896: Rangers begin their League fixtures with a 5-1 win over St Mirren thanks to goals from Tommy Hyslop, Peter Turnbull (2), Robert Crawford and Jim Miller.

1899: John McPherson, Bobby Neil and Tommy Hyslop all score a goal each as Rangers beat Hibs 3-2 in a Friendly.

1900: Rangers beat Hibs 2-1 in a Friendly at Ibrox. John McPherson and Donald Cameron grabbed a goal each.

1901: Rangers beat Hibs 4-2 in a Friendly courtesy of goals from RC Hamilton (2), David McDougall and Finlay Speedie.

1903: An RC Hamilton hat-trick and a goal from Alec Smith sees Rangers start their season with a 4-3 win over Third Lanark.

1904: Alec Mackie is on target for the Gers as they go down 2-1 in a Friendly to Airdrie.

1907: An Alec Smith brace and a goal from RG Campbell hands Rangers a 3-0 win over Morton in the opening League match.

1908: Rangers kick-off their League fixtures with a 7-0 drubbing of Port Glasgow at Ibrox. Goals from Angus McDonald (3), William McPherson (2), Tom Murray and Alex Bennett saw the Light Blues ease to victory.

1914: Willie Reid scores the only goal as Rangers begin their campaign with a win over Hamilton.

1922: Rangers open their League fixtures with a 2-0 win over Alloa. JR Smith and Andy Cunningham got the goals.

1925: An Andy Cunningham double and a goal from Geordie Henderson hand Rangers a 3-0 win over St Johnstone in the first League match of the season.

1931: Jimmy Fleming and Jimmy Smith score as Rangers are beaten 4-2 by Motherwell.

1933: Jimmy Smith leads the scoring with 6 as Rangers thump Ayr 9-1. Alec Stevenson also nets a hat-trick.

1936: Rangers comeback to defeat Third Lanark 3-1 thanks to a Bob McPhail hat-trick. The forward also missed a penalty.

1942: Goals from Billy Williamson, Torry Gillick and Charlie Johnston (2) earn Rangers a 4-1 win at home to Airdrie.

1951: 2nd half goals from Eddie Rutherford and Willie Paton hand Rangers a 2-1 win over Aberdeen in the League Cup Section D.

1953: A Derek Grierson hat-trick and a double from Willie Paton give Rangers a 5-1 victory over Hamilton in the League Cup Section C.

1956: Max Murray is the Rangers goalscorer as they are beaten 2-1 in the League Cup Section 2 by Celtic.

1959: Ralph Brand and Davie Wilson are on target as Rangers defeat Dundee 2-0 in the League Cup Section 4.

1960: Jimmy Millar scores twice as Rangers are beaten 4-2 by Celtic in the Glasgow Cup 1st Round. Harold Davis scored an OG.

1962: A Jimmy Millar hat-trick and goals from Alex Scott and Davie Wilson earn Rangers a 5-2 win at home to Third Lanark in the League Cup Section 4.

1964: Rangers hammer St Johnstone 9-1 in the League Cup Section 1 with goals scored by George McLean (2), Jim Forrest (3), Ralph Brand (3) and Jim Baxter.

1970: Rangers draw 0-0 with Morton in a League Cup Section 2.

1973: 2 goals in the last 20 minutes from Alfie Conn and Derek Parlane gives Rangers a 2-1 win over Arbroath in the League Cup Section C.

1979: Rangers book their place in the Glasgow Cup Final with a 2-0 win over Partick Thistle. Davie Cooper and Gordon Smith score although the Competition was never completed.

1981: Goals from Sandy Jardine, Bobby Russell (2), Colin McAdam and Ian Redford (4) sees Rangers ease to an 8-1 victory over Raith in the League Cup Section 2.

1987: Rangers are defeated 2-0 by Aberdeen. Davie Dodds is on the scoresheet for the Dons.

1989: An Ally McCoist hat-trick and a goal from Ian Ferguson secures Rangers’ place in the 3rd Round of the League Cup with a 4-0 win over Arbroath. The Ibrox side moved on to face Morton.

1990: Rangers are beaten 1-0 by Manchester Utd in a Friendly at Ibrox. Mark Walters missed a penalty for the Gers.

1991: Rangers agree a deal with Marseille to sell Trevor Steven for a record £5 million whilst Stuart McCall arrives at Ibrox from Everton for £1.2 million. Chris Woods also departs the Gers for Sheffield Wednesday in a £1.2 million deal.

1992: 2 goals from Ally McCoist and 1 from Ian Ferguson aren’t enough for Rangers who are beaten 4-3 at Dundee.

1995: Rangers agree to sell Basile Boli to Monaco for £2 million.

1998: Rangers defeat Motherwell 2-1. Rod Wallace opens the scoring before Jorg Albertz netting the winner with a last minute penalty.

1999: Michael Mols scores all 4 goals as Rangers defeat Motherwell 4-1 at Ibrox. Lee McCulloch is on target for the Steelmen.

2008: Pedro Mendes completes his switch from Portsmouth to Rangers for £3 million.

2009: Rangers begin their season with a 4-1 win at home to Falkirk. 2 goals from Kenny Miller and 1 each from Lee McCulloch and Steven Naismith get the Gers off to a winning start.

2014: Lewis Macleod and Nicky Clark score late on to give Rangers a 2-0 victory at Falkirk.
