1893: Rangers start their League fixtures with a 3-3 draw with Dundee at West Craigie Park. John Gray scored all 3 goals for the Light Blues.

1902: Rangers draw 2-2 with a Motherwell and District Select in a benefit match for the Ibrox Disaster relief fund. The Goalscorers remain unknown.

1908: Rangers draw 1-1 with Dundee in the Final of the Scottish National Exhibition Tournament. George Livingstone scored for the Gers who won the Cup on the toss of a coin.

1916: Rangers beat Ayr Utd 3-1 in a benefit match for the Red Cross. Sadly, the goalscorers remain untraced.

1930: A Bob McGowan double and a goal from George McMillan hand Rangers a 3-1 victory over Dumbarton in a Friendly at Boghead.

1933: Rangers kick-off their League campaign with a 5-1 thrashing to Ayr at home. Jimmy Smith scored 4 times with Willie Nicholson also on target.

1936: Rangers defeat Austria Vienna 3-1 in a Friendly at Ibrox thanks to a Bob McPhail hat-trick and a goal from Jimmy Simpson.

1939: The Light Blues start the defence of their League title with a 5-1 thumping of St Mirren. Willie Thornton, Willie Woodburn, Alex Venters (2) and James Fiddes saw Rangers ease to victory.

1944: Rangers come from 2-0 down to beat Falkirk 3-2 on the opening day of the Southern League. Goals from Torry Gillick, Alex Venters and an 88th minute winner from Willie Waddell saw the Gers register a win.

1950: A goal each from Eddie Rutherford and Willie Findlay hand Rangers a 2-1 win over Morton in the first match of the League Cup Section D.

1953: Billy Simpson, George Young, Derek Grierson and Johnny Hubbard all scored to earn Rangers a 4-1 win over Hearts in the 2nd match of the League Cup Section C.

1987: Rangers are beaten 1-0 at Hibs in a League encounter.

1989: Kenny McDowall scores the winner as Rangers open their League fixtures with a 1-0 loss at home to St Mirren.

1991: Stuart Munro leaves Rangers to sign for Blackburn Rovers in a £350,000 transfer.

2008: Rangers sell Carlos Cuellar to Aston Villa for £7.8 million.

2010: Rangers sign James Beattie on a 2-year deal from Stoke for an undisclosed fee.

2015: Dominic Ball and Nathan Oduwa arrive at Rangers on season-long loans from Tottenham.

1934: The Gers begin their fixtures with a 7-1 rout away at Dunfermline. Jimmy Smith scored a remarkable 6 goals for the Ibrox side with Bobby Main grabbing the other.

1945: George Young misses a penalty as Rangers start the Southern League with a 3-0 defeat at Motherwell.

1951: Rangers draw 0-0 with East Fife in the opening match of the League Cup Section D.

1956: 2 goals from Billy Simpson and 1 from Johnny Hubbard hand Rangers a 3-0 victory over East Fife in the League Cup Section 2.

1969: Orjan Persson, Sandy Jardine and Davie Provan were on target as Rangers beat Partick Thistle 3-2 in the Glasgow Cup Final Relay. This was the Replay for the Final of the previous season which had been carried over.

1973: Rangers start their season with a 3-1 victory against Falkirk in the League Cup Section 1. An Ally Scott brace and a goal from Alfie Conn earned the Light Blues a win.

1979: Rangers start their League fixture programme with a 3-1 defeat of Hibs. Alex MacDonald, Davie Cooper and Bobby Russell were on the scoresheet for the Ibrox men.

1982: Goals from Craig Paterson, John McDonald and Ian Redford hand Rangers a 3-1 Friendly win over China at Ibrox.

1984: Rangers start their campaign with a 0-0 draw at home to St Mirren.

1990: John Brown pulls a goal back for Rangers who go down 3-1 in a Friendly at home to Dynamo Kiev.

1992: Rangers thump Dumbarton 5-0 in the 2nd Round of the League Cup. Goals from Ally McCoist, Ian Durrant, Dale Gordon, Mark Hateley and Alexei Mikhailichenko set-up a 3rd Round clash with Stranraer.

1993: Ian Ferguson scores the only goal as Rangers dump Dumbarton out of the League Cup at the 2nd Round.

1998: Rangers defeat PAOK Salonika 2-0 in the 1st Leg of their UEFA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round Tie. Andrei Kanchelskis and Rod Wallace got the goals.

1999: Tony Vidmar and Claudio Reyna are on the scoresheet as Rangers secure a massive 2-0 win over Parma in the Champions League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg.

2000: Rangers Chairman David Murray announced that plans had been agreed in principal for a pan-European League. Murray had been joined by Celtic representatives in Amsterdam for the talks between Clubs from Holland, Portugal, Belgium and Scandinavia.

2001: Rangers beat Dunfermline 4-1 with goals coming from Russell Latapy, Tore Andre Flo and Bert Konterman (2). Stefan Klos also scored an OG.

2006: Rangers sign Lee Martin on a season-long loan from Manchester Utd. Fernando Ricksen leaves the Gers for Zenit St Petersburg on loan for the season. The deal also included a Friendly match between the sides to be played at Ibrox.

2007: Barry Ferguson and Daniel Cousin score to give Rangers a 2-0 win over St Mirren at Ibrox.

2012: Rangers begin “the Journey” with a 2-2 draw away to Peterhead. Barrie McKay had given Rangers the lead but a last-minute Andy Little goal was necessary to earn the Gers a point.

2019: Rangers thrash Hibernian 6-1 at Ibrox thanks to a Jermain Defoe hat-trick, 2 goals from Alfredo Morelos and 1 from Sheyi Ojo.

1895: Rangers defeat Renton 4-1 in a Friendly thanks to 2 goals from Peter McIntyre and 1 each from Alec Smith and Thomas Miller.

1929: The Light Blues kick-off their season with a 2-0 win over Motherwell at Ibrox. Sandy Archibald and Jimmy Fleming were on target as Rangers began what proved to be a remarkable campaign.

1935: A Jimmy Smith hat-trick and goals from Bob McPhail, Torry Gillick and George Brown get Rangers off to a 6-0 winning start in-front of 11,000 at Ibrox. Smith also missed a penalty.

1940: Rangers kick-off their Southern League fixtures with a 3-1 triumph away to Falkirk. Jimmy Smith, Charlie Johnston and Torry Gillick all grabbed a goal each. Professional football had been suspended after the outbreak of War in 1939 and the League’s regionalised, Rangers winning the Western Division.

1946: Rangers restart full-time football with a 4-2 win over Motherwell. 2 Jimmy Duncanson goals and 1 each from Willie Waddell and Willie Thornton saw the Gers return to the Scottish League in style. During the Second World War, Rangers had competed in the Western and Southern Divisions as Scottish football was regionalised.

1957: Hat-tricks from Max Murray and Billy Simpson hand Rangers a 6-0 win over St Mirren in the League Cup Section 2.

1983: Bobby Russell scores the only goal as Rangers beat Clyde in the 1st Round of the Glasgow Cup. Celtic would the opposition in the Final.

1985: Ally McCoist grabs the decisive goal as Rangers start their fixtures with a 1-0 win over Dundee Utd at Ibrox.

1991: Rangers begin the campaign for 4 in a row with a 6-0 rout of St Johnstone thanks to goals from Mo Johnston (2), Mark Hateley (3) and Ian Ferguson.

1994: Rangers are defeated 2-0 by AEK Athens in the 1st Leg of the Champions League Qualifying Round.

1996: Rangers begin their bid for a 9th consecutive League title with a 1-0 home victory over Raith Rovers. Trevor Steven grabbed the winning goal on 24 minutes.

2002: Goals from Ronald de Boer, Peter Lovenkrands and Shota Arveladze earn Rangers a 3-0 win at home to Dundee.

2004: Rangers are beaten 2-1 by CSKA Moscow in the Champions League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg. Nacho Novo had equalised for the Ibrox side.

2007: Chairman David Murray announced that he would conduct a fit and proper persons test on the next owner of Rangers and asked for trust from the fans.

2010: Rory Loy is on target as Rangers go down 2-1 to Glentoran in a Friendly.

Alfredo Morelos, James Tavernier and Lassana Coulibaly were all on target for the home side. 1980: Despite being beaten 3-2 in the 2nd Leg, Rangers progress 5-4 on aggregate to the Quarter-Final of the Anglo-Scottish Cup. Colin McAdam and Bobby Russell had been on target against Partick Thistle as the Light Blues moved on to face Chesterfield.

1983: Rangers beat Berchen Sport 4-0 in the 3rd place play-off of Metrpol ’83. A Sandy Clark hat-trick and a goal from Robert Prytz earned Rangers the win.

1985: Craig Paterson and Ally McCoist score a goal each to hand Rangers a 2-1 win over Twente in a Friendly at Ibrox.

1987: Trevor Francis finally seals his move from Atalanta to Rangers for a fee of £75,000.

1983: Rangers are beaten 2-1 by K Beerschot VAV in the Semi-Final of Metropol ’83. Sandy Clark scored as the Light Blues dropped into the 3rd place play-off, where they would face Berchen Sport.

1984: A goal each from Iain Ferguson and Ian Redford sees Rangers defeat Kaiserslautern 2-1 in a Friendly.

1986: Rangers are beaten 2-0 by Bayern Munich in a Friendly.

1994: After going 2-0 up in the Semi-Final of the Ibrox International Challenge Trophy, Rangers are beaten 4-2 by Sampdoria. Trevor Steven and Mark Hateley got on the scoresheet for the hosts. The Ibrox men would meet Man Utd in the 3rd place play-off.

2000: Despite going 2-0 down inside 10 minutes, Rangers comeback to defeat Kilmarnock 4-2 thanks to goals from Tugay, Billy Dodds (2) and Kenny Miller.

2003: Rangers are beaten 3-0 by Arsenal in a Friendly. On the same day, Rangers clinch a deal to bring Henning Berg to Ibrox after the Norwegian was released by Blackburn Rovers. Neil McCann leaves the Light Blues and signs for Southampton for £1.5 million.

2004: Rangers sign Gregory Vignal on loan for the season from Liverpool.

2006: Paul le Guen makes his competitive home debut as Rangers Manager as the Ibrox side draw 2-2 with Dundee Utd. Goals from Chris Burke and Robb (OG) see the Gers come from 2 down to earn a draw.

2008: Rangers crash out of the Champions League in the 2nd Qualifying Round thanks to a 2-1 defeat in the 2nd Leg to Kaunas. Kevin Thomson had Rangers in-front but the Light Blues went out 2-1 on aggregate.

2009: Rangers defeat Man City 3-2 in a Friendly courtesy of goals from Nacho Novo, Kenny Miller and Davie Weir.

2013: Walter Smith resigns as Rangers Chairman, issuing a passionate warning to supporters over the “dysfunctional Board.”

2014: Rangers defeat Hibs 2-1, after extra-time, in the 1st Round of the League Challenge Cup. Lewis Macleod had put Rangers ahead but a winner from Nicky Law was required on 103 minutes. The Gers progressed to face Clyde in the 2nd Round.

2018: Rangers draw 1-1 with Aberdeen at Pittodrie in Steven Gerrard’s first League match in-charge of the Light Blues. James Tavernier had put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot, whilst Alfredo Morelos was dismissed early on.

1888: Rangers are beaten 3-0 by Shettleston in a Friendly.

1966: British Railways announced that football specials from Glasgow Central to Ibrox Station were to cease. Passenger numbers on the service had decreased by over half from 42,000 in just 2 years. The falling numbers were in the most part due to the increase of Supporters busses.

1969: Rangers are beaten 1-0 by Spurs in a Friendly.

1971: The very first edition of the Rangers News is released. The publication would go on until 2012 before switching to a monthly format, briefly before stopping altogether.

1975: Derek Parlane and Alex MacDonald are on the scoresheet as Rangers are defeated 3-2 by Hertha Berlin in a Friendly.

1979: The Drybrough cup is won for the only time by Rangers with a 3-1 win over Celtic in the Final. John McDonald opened the scoring before a sensational goal from Sandy Jardine doubled the lead. The best was yet to come, as Davie Cooper collected the ball before flicking it over the heads of no fewer than 4 Celtic players before slotting the ball past the onrushing Latchford to score what was voted Rangers’ greatest goal in 2001.

1980: The Broomloan Road Stand is officially opened with a 2-1 win over Tottenham. Ian Redford and Colin McAdam got the goals for the Gers.

1987: Robert Fleck is on the scoresheet as Rangers are beaten 2-1 by Falkirk in a friendly.

1990: Rangers draw 2-2 in a Friendly with Dundee. Graeme Souness and Mark Hateley were the Rangers goalscorers.

1991: Trevor Steven, Mark Hateley and Ally McCoist score as Rangers comeback to beat Kilmarnock 3-1 in the Final of the Forum Cup.

1992: Dale Gordon opens the scoring before Mark Hateley nets a 2nd as Rangers defeat Airdrie in a League match at Ibrox. Hateley had previously missed a penalty.

1995: Rangers defeat Dundee Utd 2-1 in a Friendly at Tannadice. Gordon Durie equalised for the Light Blues before Gordan Petric grabbed the winner.

1997: 2 goals from Marco Negri and 1 from Alex Cleland sees Rangers open their campaign for 10 in a row with a 3-1 win over Hearts.

1998: Rangers seal a deal to sign Colin Hendry from Blackburn Rovers for £4 million. Meanwhile, Ally McCoist agrees a 1-year deal with Kilmarnock.

1999: Jonatan Johansson, Gabriel Amato and Rod Wallace are all on target as Rangers defeat FC Haka 3-0 in the Champions League 2nd Qualifying Round 2nd Leg. The Light Blues moved on, 7-1 on aggregate and would face Parma in the next Round.

2001: Rangers draw 0-0 with Livingston in a League match at Ibrox.

2003: Rangers seal the free transfer of Paolo Vanoli from Bologna.

2005: Rangers agree to sign Julien Rodriguez from Monaco for £1 million.

2007: Rangers kick-off their League campaign with a 3-0 win over Inverness thanks to 2 goals from Barry Ferguson and 1 from Nacho Novo.

2009: Charlie Adam makes his Blackpool stay permanent and signs for £1.35 million from Rangers.

1993: Mark Hateley is on the scoresheet as Rangers are beaten 2-1 by Newcastle in Ally McCoist’s Testimonial.

1996: Ally McCoist, Peter van Vossen and Jorg Albertz all score as Rangers beat Arsenal 3-0 at Ibrox in Richard Gough’s Testimonial.

2002: Rangers begin their League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Kilmarnock at Ibrox. Shota Arveladze had put Rangers ahead on the half hour mark.

2006: Rangers recruit Filip Sebo for £1.85 million from Austria Vienna.

2011: Rangers’ 1-1 draw with Malmo isn’t enough as the Light Blues crash out of the Champions League in the 3rd Qualifying Round, 2-1 on aggregate. Nikica Jelavic had brought Rangers back on terms but with Steven Whittaker and Madjid Bougherra sent-off, the Swedish side edged in-front with just 10 minutes remaining. The Gers did however drop into the Europa League in the 4th Qualifying Round ad would face NK Maribor.

2013: Rangers are shocked in the League Cup as Forfar triumph 2-1, after extra-time, in the 1st Round. Fraser Aird had drawn Rangers level with 9 minutes to go at Station Park.

2017: Rob Kiernan leaves Rangers for Southend for an undisclosed fee.
