1977: Goals from John Greig, Derek Johnstone and Sandy Jardine earns Rangers a 3-1 win over Dunfermline in the League Cup Quarter-Final 2nd Leg. The Gers progressed 6-2 on aggregate to face Forfar in the Semi.

1985: Sandy Clark scores twice as Rangers go down 3-0 to Hearts at Tynecastle.

1988: Rangers come from behind to defeat Hamilton 3-1 thanks to goals from Andy Gray, Ian Ferguson and Kevin Drinkell.

1879: Rangers defeat Kilmarnock Parkhouse 3-0 in a Friendly. Willie Dunlop, Moses McNeil and John Christie earns the Gers a victory.

1884: Rangers are beaten 4-3 by Arbroath in the Scottish Cup 4th Round. Goals from James Gossland, Peter Morton and Alick McKenzie had given the Light Blues a 3-0 half-time lead. An injury to Rangers’ Bob Young left him little more than a passenger in the 2nd half and the Arbroath fought back to victory. After the match, Rangers officials measured the pitch and found that the width was a foot shorter than the minimum requirement. A Replay was ordered after a protest to the SFA.

1875: Moses McNeil scores for Rangers who are beaten 2-1 by Third Lanark in the Scottish Cup 2nd Round Replay. The Gers had won the original tie but a Replay was ordered as they had kicked-off both halves. The Replay also carried controversy. Rangers appealed to the SFA afterwards that Third Lanark’s Goalkeeper had played in ordinary street clothes and so was indistinguishable from the crowd. They also claimed that Thirds first goal was scored with a hand and also that the Crowd had spilled onto the park causing the match to be abandoned 7 minutes from time. The appeal fell on deaf ears.

1880: Rangers thump Clyde 11-0 in the 4th Round of the Scottish Cup. William Struthers, George Angus, Willie Pringle and James Steel are the only known goalscorers. The Light Blues would face Hurlford in the 5th Round.

1886: Tuck McIntyre and Robert Fraser are the only known goalscorers from Rangers’ 4-2 Friendly win over Abercorn.

1897: Bobby Neil scores for Rangers with a penalty as they are held to a 1-1 draw by Celtic in the Glasgow Cup Semi-Final Replay.

1971: Rangers are beaten 3-2 at home by Dundee. Willie Johnston pulled 2 goals back but the Dee’s were 3 up after 19 minutes.

1976: Rangers beat Kilmarnock 4-0 at Rugby Park thanks to goals from Bobby McKean, Colin Jackson (2) and Derek Parlane.

1982: Davie Cooper and Derek Johnstone score for Rangers who go down 4-2 to Dundee Utd at Tannadice. Davie Dodds and Richard Gough were amongst the scorers for the home side.

1993: Mark Hateley scores twice to earn Rangers a 2-2 draw at home with Raith Rovers. Gordon Dalziel had put the Fife side ahead.

1898: Rangers are beaten 1-0 by Queen’s Park in the Final of the Glasgow Cup. Nick Smith scored an OG.

1929: Rangers secure the signing of 20 year-old Goalkeeper James “Jerry” Dawson from Camelon Juniors. He would go on to earn the nickname “The Prince of Goalkeepers,” playing nearly 500 times for the Light Blues (including wartime football), until his departure to Falkirk in 1946.

1967: Willie Johnston scores the only goal after 2 minutes to give Rangers a 1-0 home win over Morton.

1972: Alfie Conn grabs the decisive goal in the 84th minute to secure a 1-0 victory for Rangers over Airdrie at Ibrox.

1978: An Alex Forsyth penalty earns Rangers a 1-1 draw against Celtic. This was a Rangers home game but due to construction work on the Copland Road Stand, the match was played at Hampden.

1981: Rangers have Kenny Black sent-off as they are beaten 2-0 at Dundee Utd. Colin Jackson also scored an OG.

1983: Following a change of Manager, there was also a reshuffle of the Rangers Board. Hugh Adam became a Director, alongside Tom Dawson and James Robinson. Adam had helped build up the Rangers Pools, a very useful source of income for the Club. Further changes would also see Rae Simpson replaced by John Paton as Chairman.

1992: 2 goals from Ally McCoist and 1 from Mark Hateley seals a 3-1 victory for Rangers over Dundee.

1995: Oleg Salenko equalises for Rangers as they are held to a 1-1 draw by Aberdeen.

2006: Kris Boyd and Stevie Smith are on the mark as Rangers triumph 2-0 over Dunfermline at Ibrox.

2007: Walter Smith, Ally McCoist and Eric Caldow are all inducted into Scottish Football’s Hall of Fame.

1877: Rangers equal their record winning margin, set the previous month v Possilpark, with a 13-0 thrashing of Uddingston in the Scottish Cup 3rd Round. Goals from Sandy Marshall (4), James Watson (4), Moses McNeil (2) James Campbell, Peter Campbell and David Hill set-up a 4th Round clash with Vale of Leven.

1883: Sadly, the goalscorers remain unknown from Rangers’ thumping 6-0 Friendly win over Dunblane.

1888: Jimmy Wilson scores for Rangers as they are beaten 3-1 in a Friendly by Cambuslang.

1894: Rangers defeat Partick Thistle 5-3 in the Glasgow Cup Semi-Final Replay with goals coming from John Gray (3), John Cowan and John McPherson. The Light Blues would face Celtic in the Final.

1900: Rangers secure the Glasgow Cup with a 3-1 win in the Final against Partick Thistle. A goal each from John McPherson, RC Hamilton and Jacky Robertson saw the Trophy heading back to Ibrox.

1906: Archie Kyle and George Law get the goals as Rangers beat Third Lanark 2-0 at Cathkin Park in a League match.

1917: A Jimmy Gordon brace and a goal from Sandy Archibald hands Rangers a 3-0 victory away at Hearts.

1923: Davie Meiklejohn and Tommy Muirhead are on the scoresheet in Rangers’ 2-0 win over Third Lanark at Ibrox.

1928: Jimmy Fleming nets a hat-trick as Rangers thump Falkirk 4-1 at Brockville. Jock Buchanan was also on the mark.

1933: Rangers sign Scotland International Inside-Left Alex Venters from Cowdenbeath. Including wartime football, he would go on to score 198 goals in 384 appearances before moving on to Third Lanark in 1946, at the conclusion of the Second World War.

1934: Rangers cruise to a 5-1 win over Albion Rovers thanks to a Jimmy Smith hat-trick and goals from Bob McPhail and Alex Venters. Venters also missed a penalty.

1945: Rangers defeat Queen of the South 4-2. A Murdo McCormack brace and goals from Joseph McMaster and Torry Gillick see the Gers to victory in Dumfries.

1951: A Willie Thornton hat-trick and goals from Joe Johnson and Willie Findlay hands Rangers a 5-1 victory over St Mirren at Ibrox.

1956: Sammy Baird pulls 2 goals back as Rangers go down 3-2 at home against Motherwell.

1962: John Greig is the Rangers goalscorers as they are beaten 2-1 away at Dundee Utd. Walter Carlyle was on target for the Arabs.

1973: John Greig grabs the winner as Rangers defeat Morton 1-0 at Ibrox.

1979: Despite going ahead through Alex Forsyth, Rangers are beaten 2-1 by St Mirren at Love Street.

1982: Jim Bett and Derek Johnstone are on the mark as Rangers beat Hearts 2-1 in the League Cup Semi-Final 2nd Leg. The Light Blues progressed 4-1 on aggregate to face Celtic in the Final.

1983: Jock Wallace returns to Rangers to take-over as Manager. Motherwell had not been keen to lose their Boss and a £120,000 compensation package was necessary.

1984: Goals from Cammy Fraser and Davie Cooper earns Rangers a 2-2 draw with Hibs at Easter Road.

1986: John Paton resigns as Rangers Chairman. He had held the post since 1983 and was said to be making way because of Business reasons. He was to be replaced by David Holmes, who had served as Chief Executive since Lawrence Marlbrough had become owner of the Club.

1990: Ally McCoist scores for Rangers as they are beaten 2-1 by Dundee Utd at Ibrox. McCoist had also missed a penalty.

1993: Rangers beat Dundee 3-1 at Ibrox. Ian Ferguson opens the scoring before Ally McCoist grabs a brace.

2002: Goals from Michael Mols and Shota Arveladze secures a 2-1 win for Rangers over Hibs at Ibrox.

2004: Rangers beat Celtic 2-1 in the Quarter-Final of the League Cup. Dado Prso equalised on 85 minutes before Shota Arveladze scored the winner in Extra-Time. The Ibrox side would face Dundee Utd in the Semi-Final.

2010: Rangers are beaten 3-0 at home by Hibs.

2012: Lee McCulloch and Lee Wallace score to give Rangers a 2-0 win over Peterhead at Ibrox.

2016: Rangers announce that the Club had parted company with Joey Barton, who later re-joins Burnley.
