1894: Alec Smith is on target as Rangers are beaten 2-1 by Hibs in a Friendly at Ibrox.

1895: Rangers defeat Linthouse 4-3 in a Friendly at Ibrox. Sadly the goalscorers remain unknown.

1926: Rangers begin their Title campaign with a 2-0 win at home to Dundee Utd. Dr Jimmy Marshall netted twice for the Gers.

1934: Goals from Jimmy Smith, Archie McAuley and Willie Nicholson hand Rangers a 3-1 Friendly victory over Rapid Vienna at Ibrox.

1935: Rangers beat Albion Rovers 2-1 at Cliftonhill. Jimmy Smith equalises for Rangers before Davie Kinnear scores the winner, 5 minutes from the end.

1937: Rangers begin the defence of their League Championship with a 0-0 draw at home to Falkirk.

1943: 2 goals from each from Jimmy Duncanson and Torry Gillick see Rangers to an opening day 4-0 win over Hibs in the Southern League.

1946: Despite George Young putting Rangers ahead inside the first minute, the Light Blues are defeated 2-1 by Hibs at Ibrox.

1948: Rangers begin what would be a historical season with a 1-1 draw at home to Motherwell. Willie Thornton had given Rangers the lead on 5 minutes. The Gers also had Willie Woodburn sent-off.

1950: Willie Findlay and Eddie Rutherford score to give Rangers a 2-1 Friendly win at home to Akademisk.

1954: Scot Symon make his debut as Rangers Manager with a 5-0 thumping of Stirling in the League Cup Section C. Billy Simpson scores a hat-trick with John Prentice netting the other 2 goals at Annfield.

1957: Sammy Baird misses a penalty before scoring the only goal in Rangers’ League Cup Section 2 match with Partick Thistle.

1963: Rangers beat Queen of the South 5-2 in the League Cup Section 4 thanks to goals from George McLean, Davie Wilson (2), Davie Provan and Jim Forrest.

1965: 2 Jim Forrest goals aren’t enough for Rangers as they start their season with a 4-2 loss to Hearts in the League Cup Section 2.

1968: 2 goals each from Alex Smith and Alex Ferguson and 1 from Orjan Persson earns Rangers a 5-1 victory over Partick Thistle in the League Cup Section 4.

1971: Rangers kick-off a historic campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Celtic in the League Cup Section 4.

1974: Rangers hammer St Johnstone 6-3 in the League Cup Section 2 courtesy of goals from Sandy Jardine (2), Quinton Young (2), Ally Scott and Tom Forsyth.

1976: Goals from Derek Johnstone, Sandy Jardine (2), Alex Miller and Martin Henderson see Rangers ease to a 5-0 victory over St Johnstone in the League Cup Section 4.

1982: John McDonald scores for Rangers who draw 1-1 with Hibs in the opening match of Section 3 of the League Cup.

1993: Richard Gough and Ian Ferguson score as Rangers comeback to beat St Johnstone 2-1 in a League match. On the same day, Rangers sell Paul Rideout to Everton for £500,000.

1995: Rangers lose 1-0 to St Mirren for the Phoenix Honda Trophy.

1996: A Peter van Vossen brace and a goal from Ally McCoist give Rangers a 3-0 victory over Clydebank in the League Cup 2nd Round. The Gers moved on to face Ayr Utd in the 3rd Round. This would be the final time that Rangers would face the Bankies.

2004: Rangers beat Livingston 4-0 at home with goals scored by Dado Prso, Stephen Hughes (2) and Shota Aveladze.

2005: Goals from Dado Prso and Peter Lovenkrands aren’t enough as Rangers are defeated 3-2 at Aberdeen in a match that saw Fernando Ricksen sent-off.

2007: Nacho Novo scores a last minute winner as Rangers beat Red Star Belgrade 1-0 in the Champions League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg.

2009: Plymouth sign Alan Gow from Rangers for £200,000.

2010: Kenny Miller and Steven Naismith are on target as Rangers open their season with a 2-1 win over Kilmarnock at Ibrox.
