1887: Rangers are beaten 2-1 by Renton in the 2nd Replay of the Glasgow Merchants’ Charity Cup 1st Round. Sadly, the Gers’ goalscorer is unknown.

1895: Rangers progress to another Glasgow Charity Cup Final thanks to a 4-0 1st Round win over Third Lanark. 2 goals from John Cowan and 1 each from John Barker and Jock Drummond set-up a Final clash with Celtic.

1907: RG Campbell scored the only goal as Rangers defeated Celtic in the Final of the Glasgow Merchants’ Charity Cup. This prevented the Parkhead side from winning a clean sweep of honours that season.

1918: Rangers are defeated 4-1 by a Renfrewshire Select in a Benefit Match for the Red Cross War Fund. Unfortunately, the Light Blues’ goalscorer remains untraced.

1940: Jimmy Smith and Ian McPherson were on target for Rangers as they drew 2-2 with Hamilton. Smith was forced off with an injury on 75 minutes, meaning the Ibrox men had to play the remainder with 10 men.

1946: Rangers draw 1-1 with Falkirk in the Victory Cup Quarter-Final. Torry Gillick scored for the Light Blues.

1963: 2 second-half goals from Jimmy Millar and 1 from Ralph Brand sees Rangers come from 1-0 down to beat Queen of the South 3-1. Ronnie McKinnon had put the Doonhamers ahead with an OG.

1976: Rangers began their post-season North American Tour with a 2-2 draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Johnny Hamilton and Derek Johnstone got the goals for the visitors.

1996: Rangers thump Hearts 5-1 in the Scottish Cup Final thanks to a Gordon Durie hat-trick and 2 goals from Brian Laudrup. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TemyojU2LRc

2003: Ronald de Boer and Peter Lovenkrands score to give Rangers a 2-0 win over Hearts to take one of the closest ever Title Races to the final day. Rangers were scheduled to face Dunfermline at home whilst Celtic would travel to Rugby Park to play Kilmarnock. 2004: Rangers sign Alex Rae from Wolves on a Free Transfer. Emerson and Nuno Capucho also agree to a contract terminations. The Brazilian returns home to Vasco de Gama whilst Capucho joins Celta Vigo.

2018: Rangers confirm that the agreement reached in January for the transfer of Jamie Murphy from Brighton and Hove Albion had been exercised and the winger would join the Club permanently for an undisclosed fee on a 3-year contract.
