1886: Sadly, the goalscorers are unknown as Rangers defeat Central (Kirkintilloch) 5-0 in a Friendly.

1897: Rangers kick-off their League fixtures with a 4-2 victory over St Bernard’s. An RC Hamilton brace and a goal each from Tommy Hyslop and Jim Miller got the Gers off to a winning start.

1899: Alec Smith and Jim Miller score as Rangers draw 2-2 in a Friendly with Liverpool at Ibrox.

1905: Rangers are beaten 1-0 by Celtic in a Friendly.

1909: Goals from Alex Bennett and William McPherson aren’t enough to prevent Rangers from falling to a 4-2 defeat at Dundee.

1915: Rangers beat Kilmarnock 3-0. Willie Reid, Andy Cunningham and Tommy Cairns all grab a goal each for the Light Blues.

1920: Rangers secure their Semi-Final place in the Glasgow Cup with a 2-1 1st Round win over Queen’s Park. A goal each from Geordie Henderson and Sandy Archibald sets-up a Semi-Final with Celtic.

1926: Alan Morton scores for Rangers as they go down 2-1 away at St Johnstone in a League match.

1934: Rangers defeat Kilmarnock 3-1. Jimmy Smith opened the scoring but 2 goals in the last 6 minutes from Bob McPhail and Alex Venters were required to earn the Gers the points.

1935: Rangers draw 1-1 away at Sheffield Wednesday in an unofficial British Championship. Bobby Main had given the visitors the lead inside 5 minutes. The return fixture at Ibrox between the National Cup Winners would take place 2 weeks later.

1937: Rangers draw 1-1 with Motherwell at Fir Park. Bobby Main is on target for the Ibrox side.

1940: Willie Waddell scores the only goal as Rangers defeat Partick Thistle in the Glasgow Cup Semi-Final. The Gers would meet Celtic in the Final.

1943: Goals from David Marshall, Willie Waddell and Jimmy Duncanson earn Rangers a 3-1 win at Airdrie.

1946: Rangers are defeated 1-0 by Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

1948: Rangers beat Third Lanark 2-1. Billy Williamson equalised for the Gers before Jimmy Duncason netted the winner.

1954: Rangers wrap up their League Cup Section C fixtures with a 2-1 win over Clyde. A goal from Billy Simpson and a last minute winner from Willie Paton sealed the win for the Light Blues who progressed to face Motherwell in the Quarter-Final.

1957: Rangers begin their 2nd ever European campaign with a 3-1 win over St Etienne in the 1st Leg of their European Cup 1st Round tie. After going 1-0 down, goals from Don Kitchenbrand, Alex Scott and Billy Simpson earn the Light Blues a lead to take to France.

1965: Rangers beat Aberdeen in the final match of the League Cup Section 2 thanks to a George McLean hat-trick and a goal from Jim Forrest.

1971: Rangers kick-off their League fixture programme with a 3-2 loss to Partick Thistle. Alex MacDonald and Colin Stein grab the goals for the Ibrox men.

1976: Rangers begin their League campaign with a 2-2 draw against Celtic at Parkhead. Derek Johnstone and Derek Parlane had put the Light Blues 2-0 up at half-time.

1982: Rangers draw 2-2 with Motherwell in the first League match of the season. Robert Prytz and Ian Redford score for the Gers.

1985: Rangers secure their Semi-Final place in the League Cup with a 2-1 victory over Hamilton. A Bobby Williamson brace set-up a clash with Hibs.

1990: Rangers thump Raith 6-2 in the League Cup Quarter-Final courtesy of an Ally McCoist hat-trick and goals from Mo Johnston, Terry Butcher and Trevor Steven. Butcher also scored an OG. The Gers would meet Aberdeen in the Semi-Final.

1991: Ally McCoist’s goal is all that separates Rangers and Hearts in the League Cup Quarter-Final. Hibs would be Rangers’ opponents in the Semi-Final.

1993: Rangers draw 1-1 with Dundee at Dens Park. Mark Hateley netted an 85th minute equaliser.

1996: Jorg Albertz, Paul Gascoigne and Derek McInnes score to give Rangers a 3-1 win over Ayr in the League Cup 3rd Round.
