1885: Rangers are beaten 4-1 in a Friendly by Dumbarton. The Gers’ goalscorer is sadly unknown.

1891: 2 Alick McKenzie goals in the final 15 minutes for Rangers isn’t enough as the Light Blues go down 3-2 to Third Lanark in a League match.

1896: Goals from Tommy Hyslop, Burgess (OG) and David Crawford earns Rangers a 3-1 win over Dundee at Ibrox.

1900: Rangers beat Celtic 3-1 in a benefit match for Ibrox star Davy Mitchell. James Tutty, Donald Cameron and Jacky Robertson all netted once each for the home side.

1901: Rangers defeat Third Lanark 4-1 in the Semi-Final of the Glasgow International Exhibition Cup. 2 goals from RC Hamilton and 1 each from Bobby Neil and Alec Smith set-up a Final clash with Celtic.

1903: RC Hamilton and John Walker score as Rangers are forced to settle for a 2-2 draw with St Mirren at Ibrox.

1908: Rangers ease past Falkirk 4-1 thanks to an Alec Smith brace and a goal each from Alex Bennett and John McDonald.

1910: Robert Parker and John Yuille score for Rangers in their 2-1 win over Partick Thistle in Archie McKenzie’s benefit match.

1914: Willie Reid and Alex Bennett are on target to secure a 2-1 League win over Kilmarnock for Rangers.

1921: An Alan Morton hat-trick sees Rangers sweep to a 3-0 victory against Renfrew Juniors in a benefit match for J.Gilchrist.

1925: Rangers thump Morton 4-1 courtesy of a Geordie Henderson double and goals from Andy Cunningham and Sandy Archibald.

1931: 2 goals from Sam English and 1 from Bob McPhail hands Rangers a 3-1 victory away at Ayr Utd. McPhail had earlier missed a penalty before Rangers went 1-0 down.

1936: Rangers ease to a 4-1 victory over Hibs at Ibrox. Jimmy Smith scores twice with Bob McPhail and Bobby Main also on target.

1938: 17-year-old Willie Waddell makes his Rangers debut and scores the only goal as the Gers defeat Arsenal in a Friendly at Ibrox.

1939: 2 goals from Willie Thornton and 1 each from Chris McNee and Bobby Bolt see Rangers breeze past Partick Thistle 4-1 in the 1st Round of the Glasgow Cup. The Ibrox side would meet Third Lanark in the Semi-Final.

1942: A Willie Waddell hat-trick and a goal from Jimmy Duncanson hands Rangers a 4-2 win over Third Lanark.

1951: Despite going ahead inside 5 minutes through Billy Simpson, Rangers are beaten 2-1 by Aberdeen in Section D of the League Cup.

1953: Rangers complete their League Cup Section C fixtures with a thumping 5-0 win over Hamilton. Willie Paton hit the net 5 times with Willie Waddell also getting in on the act. Ayr Utd would be Rangers’ Quarter-Final opponents.

1956: Rangers draw 0-0 with Celtic in Section 2 of the League Cup.

1959: Rangers round off their fixtures in Section 4 of the League Cup with a 3-2 triumph over Dundee. Jimmy Millar, Davie Wilson and Sammy Baird all grabbed a goal each for the Light Blues. 2 losses to Motherwell meant Rangers didn’t progress from the Section.

1962: A Jimmy Millar hat-trick and 2 goals from Alex Scott earns Rangers a 5-2 win over Third Lanark in the League Cup Section 4.

1964: A 13 minute Jim Forrest hat-trick sees Rangers win 3-1 against St Johnstone in the final match of the League Cup Section 1. The Light Blues moved on to face Dunfermline in the Quarter-Final.

1970: Rangers kick-off their League fixtures with a 0-0 draw at St Mirren.

1973: Rangers beat Falkirk 5-1 in the final match of the League Cup Section 1 with goals scored by Alex O’Hara, Tommy McLean, Tom Forsyth and Alfie Conn (2).

1979: 2 goals in the first 6 minutes from Chris Robertson and Ally Dawson gives Rangers a 2-1 win over Clyde in the League Cup 2nd Round 1st Leg.

1981: A 77th minute Tommy McLean penalty sees Rangers start their League fixture programme with a 1-0 win over Partick Thistle.

1984: Rangers secure their Quarter-Final place in the League Cup Quarter-Final with a 4-0 win over Raith in the 3rd Round. An Ally McCoist double and goals from Ian Redford and Craig Paterson set-up a clash with Cowdenbeath.

1987: Rangers are beaten 1-0 by Celtic. The Gers had Graeme Souness sent-off.

1992: Rangers come from 1-0 down to defeat Aberdeen 3-1 thanks to goals from Ally McCoist, Ian Durrant and Alexei Mikhailichenko.

1998: Goals from Andrei Kanchelskis, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Jorg Albertz and Rod Wallace secures a 4-0 win for Rangers over St Johnstone.

2000: Michael Mols, Allan Johnston and Rod Wallace were on target as Rangers beat Glentoran 3-0 in a Friendly.

2001: Rangers sign Shota Arveladze from Ajax for £2 million.

2003: Rangers sell Barry Ferguson to Blackburn Rovers for £7.5 million. Meanwhile, Emerson joins the Gers on a Free Transfer from Atletico Madrid. Kevin Muscat leaves the Light Blues for Millwall on a Free Transfer.

2004: Rangers are defeated 1-0 by Celtic at Parkhead.

2005: Allan McGregor signs on loan at Dunfermline from Rangers.

2009: 2 goals each from Kris Boyd and Steven Whittaker gives Rangers a 4-1 victory over Hamilton.

2012: Rangers confirm that the contract of Kirk Broadfoot had been terminated. The Defender later agrees to join Blackpool.
