On this day – June 11th

1889: Rangers, playing under the name of Ibroxonians, beat a Falkirk District XI 6-0 in a Friendly. James McIntyre was the only Rangers player on the scoresheet with the rest comprising of guests who played that day, including future Rangers legend and Cowlairs player at the time, John McPherson. The other goalscorers were Chalmers (Clyde), Wilkie (Uddingston), W.McBean (Yoker) and R.Gow (unknown).

1911: Rangers round up their Scandinavian Tour with a 3-1 win over Denmark, in Copenhagen. 2 goals from George Chapman and 1 from Joe Hendry saw Rangers finish on a winning note. The voyage had seen Rangers visit Norway, Sweden and Denmark, playing 6 matches and winning all but 1, a draw against the Danish National side. The Light Blues found the net 32 times on the trip with Willie Reid finishing top goalscorer with 12 goals in just the 5 matches that he was involved in.

1930: Rangers continue their epic North American Tour with an 8-1 thrashing of Calgary Utd thanks to goals from Dr Jimmy Marshall (3), George Brown (2), Tully Craig, Sandy Archibald and Jimmy Fleming.

1975: Rangers are beaten 1-0 by Australia in Brisbane in their 2nd match of their Tour of the Nation.

1978: Tom Forsyth is the only Rangers player selected in Ally McLeod’s Scotland Team for their do or die World Cup game with Holland. The 3-2 win for the Scots wasn’t enough as they exited the Competition on goal difference.
