1887: Rangers’ Kinning Park Ground is officially closed with a match between the current Light Blues against a team of former stars. The “Moderns” triumphed 3-2 over the “Ancients” as the curtain fell on the Club’s time at their 2nd home. The Gers would play 2 home fixtures at Third Lanark’s Cathkin Park whilst work was completed at their new home, Ibrox Park.

1898: RC Hamilton and Alec Smith score as Rangers draw 2-2 with Third Lanark in the Scottish Cup Semi-Final Replay. Bobby Neil missed 2 penalties for the Light Blues.

1910: Ranegers thrash St Mirren 6-1 at Love Street thanks to a Willie Reid hat-trick, a Billy Hogg brace and a goal from William McPherson.

1916: Rangers suffer a 1-0 defeat to Ayr Utd in a League match at Somerset Park.

1921: Rangers defeat Alloa 4-1 in the Scottish Cup 3rd Round Replay thanks to goals from Andy Cunningham, Tully Craig (2) and Sandy Archibald. The Gers would face Dumbarton in the Quarter-Final.

1924: A 10-minute hat-trick from Tully Craig secures a 3-0 victory for Rangers over Clydebank at Ibrox.

1927: The Derby Evening Telegraph reported that Derby County’s attempts to lure Bob McPhail from Airdrie were to be in vein, with the youngster’s heart set on a move to Rangers. Everton had looked to be in pole position for the 20 year-old’s signature, so much so that the Rams were warned that they would require “the Bank of England” if they wished to match their offer. However, McPhail remained adamant that he wanted to be playing his football at Ibrox, much to the chagrin of Airdrie. Persistence paid off, and a switch to Rangers was agreed shortly afterwards with a huge £5,000 required to bring the forward to Glasgow. It would certainly prove to be money well spent with McPhail scoring 261 times in 408 appearances until retirement in 1940, becoming the Club’s record goalscorer, an achievement bettered only by Ally McCoist.

1929: Bob McPhail and Tully Craig score twice each as Rangers thrash Third Lanark 5-1 at Ibrox. Sandy Archibald was also on the mark for the home side.

1938: Jimmy Smith scores twice for Rangers who can only draw 2-2 at home with Aberdeen.

1944: Despite going ahead through Neil McKinnon, Rangers can only draw 1-1 with Queen’s Park at Ibrox.

1949: Rangers defeat St Mirren 2-1 at Ibrox. Willie Thornton opened the scoring on 72 minutes and, although the visitors equalised on the 89th minute, there was still time for Jimmy Duncanson to net a winner.

1955: Rangers are beaten 1-0 by Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

1966: Jim Forrest and George McLean grab 2 goals each to give Rangers a 4-0 win over Hamilton at Ibrox.

1972: Rangers beat St Mirren 4-1 in the Scottish Cup 2nd Round with goals scored by Alex MacDonald, Tommy McLean (2) and Colin Stein. The Ibrox side would meet Motherwell in the Quarter-Final.

1977: Rangers beat Elgin 3-0 in the 4th Round of the Scottish Cup. Goals from Colin Jackson, Tommy McLean and Alex MacDonald set-up a Quarter-Final tie with Motherwell.

1979: Billy Urquhart scores the only goal as Rangers beat Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup 4th Round Replay. The Gers had had Colin Jackson sent-off after 3 minutes, and were drawn to play Dundee in the Quarter-Final.

1983: Rangers suffer a 1-0 loss to St Mirren in Paisley.

1985: Ally McCoist scores both goals for Rangers who draw 2-2 with Forfar in a Testimonial match for former Light Blues’ Goalkeeper Stewart Kennedy.

1991: Pieter Huistra equalises as Rangers draw 1-1 away at St Johnstone.

1994: 2 goals in the last 20 minutes from Ian Ferguson and Gordon Durie sees Rangers come from behind to defeat Raith 2-1 at Stark’s Park.

2005: Dado Prso and Nacho Novo are on target as Rangers beat Kilmarnock 2-1 at Ibrox.. Kris Boyd scored for the visitors.

2012: Rangers defeat Inverness 4-1 thanks to goals from Steve Davis, Sone Aluko, Andy Little and Lee McCulloch.

2013: Rangers are held to a 1-1 draw by Stirling Albion at Forthbank. The Gers went ahead through Andy Little.

1911: Despite going ahead through Billy Hogg, Rangers suffer a 2-1 home defeat to Dundee in the Scottish Cup Quarter-Final. RC Hamilton equalised for the Dees.

1922: Rangers beat Hearts 4-0 at Tynecastle in the Scottish Cup 3rd Round. An Andy Cunningham brace and goals from Arthur Dixon and Robert McDiarmid booked a Quarter-Final with St Mirren.

1925: Sandy Archibald equalises as Rangers are held to a 1-1 draw by Airdrie in a League match at Ibrox.

1933: Rangers beat Dundee 6-4 at Ibrox. The Gers went ahead through Willie Nicholson, Dr Jimmy Marshall, Jimmy Smith and Jimmy Fleming, although were pegged back each time. 2 goals in the last 19 minutes from Fleming and Marshall saw the home side secure a victory.

1939: 2nd half goals from Bob McPhail and Jimmy Smith sees Rangers come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at home with Kilmarnock. James Fiddes also missed a penalty for the Gers.

1950: Billy Williamson and Willie Waddell get the goals as Rangers beat Raith 2-0 at Ibrox.

1956: For the 3rd successive match, Don Kitchenbrand scores the only goal as Rangers defeat St Mirren 1-0 in Paisley.

1961: Rangers draw 2-2 with Motherwell in the Scottish Cup 3rd Round at Fir Park. Max Murray had put the visitors 2-0 in-front.

1967: An Alex Reid double and a goal from Alex Smith hands Rangers a 3-0 home win against St Mirren.

1970: A goal from Billy Semple and a John Greig double secured a 3-1 victory for Rangers over St Johnstone.

1940: Rangers thump Alloa 4-1 at Ibrox in the Scottish Emergency War Cup 1st Round 1st Leg. Willie Thornton and Jimmy Duncanson scored twice each for the home side. The SFA arranged this Competition after the abandonment of the Scottish Cup for the duration of the 2nd World War. For the rest of the War years, Cup football would take the form of the Southern League Cup and the Summer Cup for the Light Blues.

1945: Rangers kick-off their Southern League Cup Section A fixtures with a 2-1 victory over Albion Rovers at Ibrox. 2 goals in the last 18 minutes from George Young and Murdoch McCormack saw the Gers come from 1-0 down to claim victory. Dougie Gray scored an OG.

1951: Willie Waddell scores for Rangers who are beaten 3-1 by Raith at Stark’s Park.

1954: Willie Paton is on target as Rangers are beaten 2-1 by the British Army in a Friendly at Ibrox.

1962: Ian McMillan scores the only goal as Rangers defeat Hearts 1-0 in Edinburgh.

1969: Willie Johnston and Orjan Persson get the goals as Rangers beat Hearts 2-0 in the 2nd Round of the Scottish Cup. The Ibrox side would face Airdrie in the Quarter-Final.

1973: Rangers draw 1-1 at home with Hibs in the Scottish Cup 4th Round. Derek Johnstone had put the Light Blues ahead.

1974: A goal from Quinton Young and a Derek Parlane double secures a 3-1 victory for Rangers over Dundee Utd at Ibrox.

1979: Rangers are beaten 3-2 by Hearts at Tynecastle. The Gers had found themselves 2-0 down after quarter of an hour before Gordon Smith and Derek Parlane scored to level the scores by the 25th minute.

1998: Jonas Thern equalises as Rangers draw 1-1 with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

1999: The Old Firm broke new ground as the 2 Clubs announced that they were both in talks over a joint shirt sponsorship deal. Rangers and Celtic had both had the CR Smith logo on their strips in the 1980’s but that was the result of separate negotiations. A 4-year deal with American Cable operator NTL, worth £13 million was eventually agreed.

2000: Colin Hendry is sold by Rangers to Coventry City for £750,000.

2001: Bert Konterman grabs the decisive goal as Rangers defeat Dundee 1-0 at Dens Park. Billy Dodds also missed a penalty for the visitors.

2002: Rangers cruise to a 6-0 victory over Forfar in the Scottish Cup Quarter-Final courtesy of goals from Billy Dodds (3), Shota Arveladze (2) and Andrei Kanchelskis. Dodds also missed a penalty as the Gers moved on to play Partick Thistle in the Semi-Final.

2008: Rangers defeat Gretna 4-2 at Ibrox thanks to goals from Daniel Cousin, Steven Naismith, Chris Burke and Kris Boyd.

2011: Rangers draw 2-2 away at Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League Last 32 2nd Leg. El Hadji Diouf opened the scoring but an injury-time goal from Mo Edu was required to seal an away goals victory with the aggregate scores tied at 3-3. Pedro Mendes was on the scoresheet for the Portuguese side. The Light Blues moved on to play PSV Eindhoven in the Last 16.

2017: Rangers suffer a 2-1 defeat away at Inverness. Martyn Waghorn had equalised for the visitors with a penalty.

1876: Rangers are beaten 1-0 in a Friendly by Lennox at Burnbank. The Gers were without founders Moses McNeil and Peter Campbell who were down in England representing Glasgow in a match against Sheffield, becoming the first Rangers players to win representative honours.

1881: The goalscorers remain unknown from Rangers’ 8-2 Friendly win over Partick Thistle at Levengrove Park.

1887: Pat Lafferty, Matthew Lawrie, Robert Fraser and Joe Lindsay are the only known scorers as Rangers beat Old Westminsters 5-1 in the FA Cup Quarter-Final. The Gers would meet Aston Villa in the Semi. This would be the last competitive match to be played at Rangers’ Kinning Park Ground. It would be officially closed the following week with a match between a team of former Rangers players against the current side. The Light Blues would play 2 home fixtures at Third Lanark’s Cathkin Park whilst work was completed on their new home, Ibrox Park.

1940: Rangers beat Airdrie 3-1 at Ibrox in the Western Division courtesy of goals from Willie Thornton, Alex Venters and Tom McKillop.

1945: Rangers ease to a 6-3 victory over Dumbarton at Boghead thanks to a Jimmy Duncanson hat-trick, a Torry Gillick brace and a goal from George Young.

1951: Despite going ahead through Billy Simpson, Rangers can only draw 1-1 with St Mirren at Ibrox.

1954: Rangers beat Kilmarnock 3- in the Scottish Cup 2nd Round Replay at Rugby Park. A Willie Paton double and a goal from Willie McCulloch set-up a 3rd Round clash with Third Lanark.

1958: Max Murray scores for Rangers in their 1-1 draw with the Scottish National side in a World Cup Warm-up match at Ibrox.

1962: Eric Caldow and Ralph Brand are on the mark as Rangers are held to a 2-2 draw by Aberdeen at Pittodrie in the Scottish Cup 3rd Round. Caldow also missed a penalty.

1965: Jim Forrest pulls a goal back as Rangers are beaten 3-1 by reigning World Champions Inter Milan in the European Cup Quarter-Final 1st Leg at the San Siro. Forrest thus became the first British player to score a goal in European Competition in the City of Milan. The Ibrox side were without Jim Baxter, who had suffered a broken leg in the previous round against Rapid Vienna.

1968: Rangers draw 1-1 away at Dundee in the Scottish Cup 2nd Round. The Gers had gone in-front through a Stewart OG.

1974: Rangers suffer a 3-0 defeat against Dundee in the Scottish Cup 4th Round at Ibrox. Due to a Miner’s Strike, the match had to be played on a Sunday and is believed to be the first competitive game the Light Blues have played on the Sabbath.

1982: Mo Johnston score as Rangers are beaten 2-0 by Partick Thistle at Firhill.

1990: Rangers are forced to settle for a 0-0 draw with Hearts at Ibrox.

1998: Rangers defeat Motherwell 3-0 in the Scottish Cup 4th Round Replay. 2 goals from Jorg Albertz and 1 from Gordon Durie booked a Quarter-Final Tie with Dundee.

2008: Carlos Cuellar and Kris Boyd get the goals as Rangers defeat Kilmarnock 2-0 at Rugby Park.

2010: Kris Boyd nets an 86th minute winner as Rangers beat St Mirren 1-0 in the Scottish Cup 5th Round Replay. The Light Blues would meet Dundee Utd in the Quarter-Final.

2011: Rangers draw 1-1 with Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League Last 32 1st Leg at Ibrox. The home side had gone ahead through Steven Whittaker but were stung by a last minute goal.

2016: Ryan Hardie moves from Rangers to Raith Rovers on loan for the rest of the season.

1878: 2 goals from founder Moses McNeil and 1 each from Hugh McIntyre and Sandy Marshall earns Rangers a 4-2 win in a Friendly over Nottingham Forest. This was the very first time that the Gers had played outside of Scotland and 2 days later they would take on Sheffield Wednesday.

1889: The goalscorers remain unknown from Rangers’ 2-1 victory over Ayr FC in a Friendly.

1895: Rangers suffer a 1-0 defeat to Third Lanark in a League fixture at Ibrox.

1901: Rangers wrap up their League fixtures with a 3-2 win over Morton at Ibrox. An RC Hamilton double and a goal from Finlay Speedie handed the Light Blues a victory. The Championship had already been secured, and the Gers finished the campaign 6 points clear of 2nd placed Celtic.

1907: Rangers defeat Galston in the Scottish Cup 4th Round. Goals from George Livingstone (2), J.Dickie and Jimmy Spiers set-up a Quarter-Final with Celtic.

1918: A David Brown double and a goal from Tommy Cairns secures a 3-0 win for Rangers at Shawfield over Clyde.

1927: James Hair scores both goals as Rangers are held to a 2-2 draw away at Aberdeen.

1929: Tommy Muirhead and Sandy Archibald get the goals as Rangers beat Clyde 2-0 in the 3rd Round of the Scottish Cup. The Ibrox men would face Dundee Utd in the Quarter-Final.

1935: Rangers come from behind to beat Airdrie 3-1 at Ibrox thanks to a Bob McPhail double and a goal from Sammy Roberts.

1946: Rangers finish off their Southern League fixtures with a 2-0 loss at Tynecastle. The Gers had already been confirmed as Champions, and finished 8 points ahead of Hibs in 2nd. This match was also Dougie Gray’s final League match for Rangers. The longest-serving Ranger made 940 appearances, including those made during the War years, and would play twice more in Glasgow Cup ties before retiring at the end of the following season.

1952: Willie Thornton scores the only goal, just before half-time as Rangers beat Airdrie 1-0 at Broomfield.

1957: Rangers draw 4-4 with Celtic in the Scottish Cup 6th Round at Parkhead. The game was 2-2 after the first quarter of an hour, with the visitors twice going ahead through Bobby Morrison and then Billy Simpson. There was no further scoring until the 75th minute when Celtic went in-front and looked to have won the tie when they scored again 6 minutes later. A Johnny Hubbard penalty and a Max Murray goal in the final 7 minutes forced a Replay.

1977: Rangers draw 0-0 with Hibs in Edinburgh.

1980: Derek Johnstone scores 3 minutes from time to give Rangers a 1-0 win over Dundee Utd in the Scottish Cup 4th Round at Ibrox. The Light Blues progressed to play Hearts in the Quarter-Final.

1985: John Brown grabs the winner as Rangers are beaten 1-0 at home by Dundee in the Scottish Cup 4th Round. The Gers had Ian Redford and Robert Prytz sent-off.

1988: Rangers finally sign Ian Ferguson from St Mirren, for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £800,000.

1991: Ally McCoist and Mark Hateley are on target in Rangers’ 2-0 defeat of Motherwell at Ibrox.

1998: Dick Advocaat is confirmed as the man to replace Walter Smith as Rangers Manager, taking up the reins prior to the start of season 1998/99.

2002: A goal each from Russell Latapy, Tore Andre Flo and Fernando Ricksen hands Rangers a 3-0 victory over Motherwell at Ibrox.

2013: Andy Little and David Templeton score twice each as Rangers ease to a 4-1 win at Clyde.

2016: Rangers defeat Kilmarnock 2-1 at Rugby Park in the Scottish Cup 5th Round Replay. Martyn Waghorn put the visitors in-front but a late winner from Nicky Clark was required to set-up a Quarter-Final with Dundee.
